Design and engineering of thickeners and tanks are on schedule for a contract awarded to Delkor India by Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP), Morocco. The contract covers fabrication, supply and installation of thickeners for OCP’s Khouribga mines.
The significance of the North African market has led to a new office, Delkor Morocco, being established in Casablanca. While it is initially planned to be a Delkor sales hub for the region, it is expected to grow into a fully fledged office to service the North and West African area.
Delkor’s supply and installation includes seven thickeners and tanks ranging from 40 m to 50 m in diameter. The bid was a truly global Delkor team effort, drawing on the expertise and contributions of Delkor offices in the United Kingdom, Australia, Chile and Canada.
With the thickeners having to be installed and commissioned within a period of 15 months, the engineering phase is complete and procurement is in progress. The first consignment of 1,300 tons of structural steel was delivered in November, 2011 and is currently being prepared for site installation, scheduled for early 2012.
Using state-of-the-art 3D software, the design process incorporated detailed finite element modelling analysis of all equipment. Fabrication is being partly carried out in Morocco, while the rest will be manufactured at Delkor in Bangalore, India, as well as in Europe and Chile.
With the world’s largest phosphate reserves mostly located in the Khouribga basin in central Morocco, OCP is a worldwide leader in the phosphate rock and derivatives market. Headquartered in Casablanca and the largest enterprise in Morocco, OCP has a planned expansion programme with an investment of USD5 billion in Morocco.
Delkor’s complete range of thickeners, with designs of up to 100 m in diameter, cater for a variety of applications, including minerals, industrial, chemical, water treatment and waste water industries.
